Top 5 New Features of the 2020 Corvette
The long-awaited eighth generation of the Chevrolet Corvette has finally made its debut, and the 2020 C8 Corvette is scheduled to start arriving at Chevy dealerships such as our Hendrick Corvette Center locations in Duluth and Buford, GA in the new year. The C8 Corvette is available as either a coupe or a convertible, and both come in three trim options: the 1LT, 2LT, or 3LT. The Corvette has been totally redesigned for 2020, boasting exciting new features in every department. Below are what we think are the top five new features of the 2020 Corvette Stingray that our Atlanta-area customers are sure to enjoy.
1. First Mid-Engine Corvette Ever
The 2020 Corvette is the first mid-engine Corvette Chevy has ever created. This means that instead of the engine sitting in the front like most vehicles, it now sits behind the driver. This new feature creates nearly 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution when the driver is inside. Moving the engine from the front to behind the driver puts more weight on the rear axle, giving it more traction and allowing the vehicle to accelerate faster. It also allowed the addition of the “frunk” — a front trunk — which is large enough for a TSA-approved carry-on and a laptop bag, plus there is still room in the rear trunk for two sets of golf clubs or the removable roof panel.
2. New V8 Engine
With the C8 Corvette comes a new engine — a 6.2L LT2 V8. This engine is impressive on its own, but with the available Performance Exhaust or Z51 Performance Package, it produces 495 horsepower, which allows it to go 0–60 mph in less than three seconds. Without the Performance Package, the Stingray reaches a top speed of 194 mph. For added style, the all-new engine is visible through a rear hatch window.
3. First Hardtop Corvette Convertible
For the first time in Corvette history, a hardtop convertible is available. The two-piece top is powered by six electric motors and can be activated at speeds up to 30 mph and retract in as few as 16 seconds. As far as appearance goes, a body-colored roof is standard; however, there is also an option for Carbon Flash metallic-painted nacelles and roof.
4. New Eight-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic
For the first time, the Corvette has an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and it is also the only transmission available. A manual transmission is not available for the eighth generation Vette. The new transmission provides seamless and lightning-fast shifting, and it also provides paddle shifters if drivers want to choose their gear. That said, Duluth and Buford Corvette lovers won’t be able to resist taking the 2020 Corvette for a test drive at Hendrick Corvette!
5. Two New Custom Driving Modes
On top of the pre-existing driving modes — Tour, Sport, Weather, and Track — the 2020 Corvette offers two new driving modes: My Mode and Z-Mode. These drive modes let you personalize the car’s performance and save settings between drives. Chevrolet describes Z-Mode as a “single-use-case” used for driving on windy stretches of road, while My Mode is a personalized every-day driving mode you can use rather than the standard Tour mode.
